The New Year will start in style with the MrQ Masters at Alexandra Palace, snooker’s greatest invitation event.

By Tomos Wyn Jones

Judd Trump is the defending champion at the tournament which runs from January 7 to 14. Ally Pally, to the north of England’s capital city, has become renowned as one of snooker’s best venues. But if you’re in London for the week, needless to say there’s plenty more to do…

Getting there

It’s easy to get to the venue by rail as it has its own train station called Alexandra Palace Station. It is located at the Wood Green entrance to the park. A regular train service with Great Northern runs direct from Moorgate, through Highbury & Islington. There is also a service direct to and from King’s Cross. You can also get to the venue by bus, tube, bike or car – for all details click here.

Local Food

Arguably the most famous national dish of the United Kingdom is fish and chips. Toff’s of Muswell Hill, established in 1968 and a favourite chippy, not least for the BBC’s snooker commentators, is located only 15 minutes away from Alexandra Palace. Pie and mash is also a popular meal amongst Londoners and can be found across cafés and restaurants in the city, or try the famous Borough Market for an amazing range of local and international produce.
