Stephen Maguire won three of his four matches in group seven of the BetVictor Championship League Snooker to become the overnight leader.
The Scotsman’s campaign didn’t start according to plan, narrowly losing to fellow Scot Graeme Dott 3-2 in the opening match. Maguire bounced back in his next fixture, beating Matthew Selt 3-1.
He then faced late call-up Lyu Haotian, a replacement for Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Maguire completed his second consecutive 3-1 victory of the group, top scoring with 124. And former UK Champion Maguire finished the day with another 3-1 success, against Xiao Guodong. He is closely followed by the unbeaten Dott who has three wins out of three
The eventual group champion will go through to the Winners’ Group later in the week, joining Jack Lisowski, Stuart Bingham, Kyren Wilson, Judd Trump, John Higgins, and Neil Robertson. A place in the 2023 Champion of Champions will be on the line.
