Stephen Maguire thrashed Dominic Dale 5-1 to reach the second qualifying round of the BetVictor German Masters.
Victory over Yuan Sijun on Tuesday would put Scotland’s Maguire through to the final stages at the marvellous Tempodrom venue in Berlin in January. Maguire, who was runner-up in this event in 2012, top scored with 93 in a comfortable win over Dale.
Yuan ended Lukas Kleckers’ hopes of qualifying for his tournament with a 5-2 victory. Breaks of 103 and 100 helped China’s Yuan come from 2-0 down to take five frames in a row.
Anthony McGill scored a 5-2 success over Louis Heathcote, making breaks of 65, 79, 80 and 96. Zhou Yuelong top scored with 102 in a 5-1 defeat of Peter Devlin, while Tom Ford edged out Joe O’Connor 5-4 in a Leicester derby.
