BetVictor Scottish Open champion Gary Wilson saw his momentum ended by a cruel 5-4 defeat to Scott Donaldson in the qualifying round for the BetVictor German Masters.
Wilson won seven matches in Edinburgh last week to land his second ranking title, but he won’t be in Berlin in January having missed chances in the deciding frame on Wednesday night. He made a safety error when leading 56-4 with four reds left, and had to watch Donaldson fashion an excellent 58 clearance to reach the last 64.
Liam Pullen added another highlight to his impressive debut season as he beat former World Champion Stuart Bingham 5-1 with top breaks of 73, 80, 56 and 72.
International Championship winner Zhang Anda made a 133 in a 5-3 defeat of Mostafa Dorgham. Jordan Brown made a 142 in coming from 2-0 and 4-2 down to beat Long Zehuang 5-4. Northern Ireland’s Brown trailed 51-0 in the decider before clearing with 69.
The qualifying round concludes on Friday.
